soccer

we are not really soccer people.  i'm not athletic, never played sports in school...well except middle school but that really deserves a post all on its own.  jay never played soccer.  mac played for about a year and a half and then decided it really wasn't his thing.

i think however that soccer is a great sport for little guys (and girls.)  its great exercise, they get exposed to being on a team, following rules, learning about good sportmanship and on and on.  charlie has played itty bitty soccer through our local parks and rec and participated in a soccer class at preschool last year but has yet to play organized sports.

this fall charlie is on his first soccer team.  he has practices once a week and he'll be playing games until the middle of october.  he has been waiting for this day, his first 'real' soccer game for at least a year and a half.

he got his first jersey.  for some reason, i love that its #1.

they play on two fields, 3 on 3.  he took the game pretty seriously.

it was awesome that both grandpa and grandma foreman were able to be there.

it was hot hot hot today. luckily they get breaks and a half time.  :)

charlie actually scored 3 goals.

love his crazy hair in this pic

the best part, he wants to go back next week.  :)

1st day pictures

guess what?  i survived...and reading the last post now i think to myself, 'wow..a little melodramatic there stevie'

by the time the first day rolled around it was actually more exciting than sad.  i was a little sad still am, but so exciting that we are entering this stage.  both boys in school, together, going to the same place for at least a couple years. it's nice.

i think charlie is doing well.  i think the hardest part of kindergarten is you lose that daily interaction with the teacher to get a sense of what is going on and how your kiddo is doing.  all i know at this point is that charlie has been excited to get on the bus every morning this week and has been a happy camper when he gets home.

these pictures are actually transition day.

first day of school.

mac is entering 5th grade and loves his class and likes his teacher.  he has talked non stop since wednesday about his classroom, the kids in his class and of course seeing charlie at school.  he is such a great big brother.  he's always looking out for char char.

1st day

it is upon me and just thinking about it brings me to tears.

my diaper bag is officially retired and replaced with a new backpack.

my baby will get on the bus and head to his first day of kindergarten.

i can't believe that it was only 5 years ago that mac was headed to kindergarten.  i was holding a 4 month old, heading back to work.

where oh where have the last 5 years gone

right now they are thoughts that are unbearable.

summer is on its way out the door

so we are quickly seeing summer come to an end.   we have been busy doing home projects (finally finished painting our living room) watching our small garden grow and trying to enjoy just being.  this summer has been probably one of my most favorites.  it has been relaxed, slower paced and just plain nice.  we have spent lots of time together just being with each other.

i'm excited that we are beginning to prepare for the new school year.  most of the school supplies have been bought, we will have meet your teacher night on thursday and charlie has transition day a week from monday.  i love love love this time of year.  to me, august represents a new year...having a clean slate and starting new.  did i tell you i loved this time of year?

we're off to celebrate the hubby's birtday.  plans are TBD.  enjoy these last fleeting moments of summer!!

really

i am a mommy who works full time outside the home (in addition to my full time mommy job) and sometimes i just don't realize my own limitations.  in an effort to be more healthy and frugal i tempted to make my own tortillas tonight.  um ....really?  i maybe need to think that one out a little bit more.  not saying i won't ever try again, but tonight was definetly not the night to try.

Easiest Lasagna Ever

The name of this recipe is Easiest Lasagna Ever, and it truly is.

You need:

1 lb Hamburger
8 oz lasagna noodles
28 oz jar of spaghetti sauce
1 1/2 c of cottage cheese
8 oz shredded Mozzarella cheese
onion
green pepper

Boil the lasagna noodles until tender.  Brown and drain hamburger.  Add cottage cheese and spaghetti sacue to hamburger.  Add onion and green pepper for taste.  Layer meat sauce and lasagna noodles beginning and ending with sauce in a 9 x 13 dish.  approximately 4 big spoonfuls of sauce per layer and 3 noodle strips.  Sprinkle shredded cheese over top.  bake at 350 for one hour.  (anyone who knows me, will know this recipe is not an original but is from a cookbook )

super simple, super good.

i made this recipe this week and i used  this.  my family didn't even notice and they raved how good it was.  i also used the no cook lasagna noodles and they seemed to work well, other than getting a little crusty on the outside.

enjoy!

PS...we've made a ton of progress on our project that i mentioned a couple weeks ago, hopefully some before and after shots coming in the next couple of weeks.
