funny

last night as we are driving home from charlie's performance, mac is singing lady gaga's alejandro. funny though that he thinks she is singing 'magic afro, magic afro', instead of alejandro, alejandro.

just do it

When I went to the dr a month or so ago for my yearly visit, he recommended that I get a baseline mammogram. New recommendations by the smart people I suppose, is that a woman should get a baseline mammogram at the age of 35. I him and hawed about scheduling it and was really planning on waiting till after the holidays. The more I thought about that I realized that was stupid. Lordy, if there is something in there lets find it and kick it in the booty.

For the last 3 years I have participated in the Susan G. Komen race. It’s one of my favorite events and I always leave feeling immensely blessed and obligated to share the story and educate others to do self breast exams and get mammograms. So kind of ironic that I try to postpone the exam. In fact on my way to the appointment, I tried to call and reschedule. Luckily the line was busy, so I considered it a sign to just get it over with.

Some of you may not have embarked on this part of being a woman, so thought I would share what it was like as I myself had no idea.

I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. They took a total of 4 pictures, 2 of each breast. It didn’t hurt but was uncomfortable. After the pictures were taken, I waited while the radiologist evaluated the pictures. The idea that if deemed necessary, they may do more tests (i.e. ultrasound) while you are there vs having you come back. Luckily for me, I got a clean report and was sent on my way.

Point is…get your mammograms, do your self exams, take care of yourself. Thank God for your health and pray for those incredible women (& men) who are fighting the battle.

thanksgiving

thanksgiving 2010 was absolutely wonderful. we headed to arkansas for a much needed break. for the first time in i don't know how long it felt like a vacation...no thoughts of work, no thoughts of undone tasks around the house. just being in the moment...eating great food, enjoying bonfires, four wheelers, early to bed late to rise.

memory lane

there has been a box that has been sitting in my house for quite awhile.  hubby brought home this box on his last day of employment at our local telecommunications company, 5 1/2 years ago.  like i said it's been awhile.  most of the papers are old time sheets, performance reviews, very valuable stuff ya know.

as i was going through his folders, i found this:

look at the date....May 1999.  it's important to note that i'm fairly confident that i gave this calendar to jay but you'll note some pretty significant dates, our second anniversary and the 'are we having a girl or boy appointment.'  so many good memories that feel like it was eons ago.  looks like i was working a lot of saturdays...i sure don't remember that.

confused

from the moment we left lawrence on Saturday night after visiting hank, charlie has been asking for a jayhawk book and tiger books.  so we ventured to the library last night and this is what we came home with.

i'm not sure what is more crazy, that these books are even next to each other or the fact that i took 20 picutres of this.

Halloween 2010 Recap

Halloween 2010 Recap

Mac decided last minute to go trick or treating this year. Last minute meaning an hour before trick or treating departure time. He reused an old costume from a couple years back.

Have you seen the new Scooby Doo movie on Cartoon Network?  If so, you will recognize Charlie's character.   If you are like me and you have seen it, you still may not be able to guess, so for clarity's sake, Charlie is dressed as the swamp monster.

He was a little resistant of wearing the entire costume thus the 2 pics.

My niece and nephew joined us for trick or treating.

Neewollah snapshots...I was going to share pictures taken this year, but just go back to last years post.  The Neewollah parade is pretty consistent year to year.  Same scools, similar floats just differnt people.

Some Halloween decorations around the house.

See my ghost?  I made that!!  I love that.  I got the idea from here.

11 years ago today
     I was miserable
     2 weeks over due
     As big as a whale
     Anxious, nervous, excited

11 years ago today
My dr advised me to check into the hospital that night so they could induce me
I couldn’t get to the hospital fast enough

11 years ago tonight
     I was scared
Praying that everything would be ok

I was in complete awe…you were the most handsome baby I’ve ever seen
Ecstatic that I was finally holding you
In amazement that I had a 9 lb 15 oz baby

I say it all the time and I will continue to say it, but I can’t believe another year has gone by. I have to be the luckiest person alive, that God allowed me to be your Mom.

Happy Birthday Mac

me

i'm a perfectionist to the point it's a fault.  if i can't do it perfectly, i don't want to do it at all

this verse hit my heart.
Isaiah 41:13 For I am the Lord, your God, who takeshold of your right hand and says to you. Do not     fear; I will help you.

i love music.  one of my favorites right now is sara bareilles.

loved father's homily today.  in gist, he said look at your life and see if your actions are what you want to be teaching.  funny i was almost crying about this on my way to church.

i think i'm done writing about ku football although probably not.  this is going to be a rough season.

loving the weekend, sad that it will be drawing to a close soon.

i ran today

i ran today....and it actually felt good. since my last 1/2 marathon, running has felt different, forced, uncomfortable.  if you know me in real life and someone i talk to about running, you would know that running as been difficult.  today, it felt good, challenging but good.

Ahhh....i ran today.

Headquarters

tonight, as charlie and i played basketball, charlie gave the run down on the rules and the boundary lines.  he pointed to both ends of the driveway and called them the headquarters, 'you know mom, where the players who aren't playing sit."

KU Football

I love my alma matter. I truly truly do. Did you see Saturday’s game? Yeah you know the one against North Dakota State. So who created the time machine? I swear it was 1987.

As a result, my family is seriously considering becoming Razorback fans. I’m pretty sure we all look good in red.

rambling

Some current thoughts running through my head

I feel like I’m on the teetering edge of spiraling out of control when it comes to my diet and exercise. The last couple of months my diet and exercise have not really been where I would like them to be. My problem is that I enjoy eating and I’m an emotional eater. I don’t necessarily eat when I’m hungry, I eat when I’m happy, sad, stressed, excited nervous, etc. At the end of the day, it’s up to me. Only I can make the choices that will make me happy. I feel like I need a plan, but I’m probably making it more difficult than it needs to be. On top of that, running just hasn’t felt good at all and I just don’t have the umph to make it consistently to my 5:30 exercise classes. Sad thing is I feel so much better when I do go, but man that alarm just goes off way to early.

I’m loving that the boys love school. I have been pleasantly surprised how Charlie really seems to love school. I’m probably a little nervous that we just might be in the honeymoon stage, but he has not once complained about going to school. Mac seems to have really settled in this year and seems to be building stronger connections to the school and his friends there. I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss presentation, because truth be told I do.

I loved this post and the excerpt taken about busy. So so true. I need to read this book.

You know your mind is on work a lot when you tell your husband as your sleep talking that the documents for the release schedule are in the trunk. nice

soccer

we are not really soccer people.  i'm not athletic, never played sports in school...well except middle school but that really deserves a post all on its own.  jay never played soccer.  mac played for about a year and a half and then decided it really wasn't his thing.

i think however that soccer is a great sport for little guys (and girls.)  its great exercise, they get exposed to being on a team, following rules, learning about good sportmanship and on and on.  charlie has played itty bitty soccer through our local parks and rec and participated in a soccer class at preschool last year but has yet to play organized sports.

this fall charlie is on his first soccer team.  he has practices once a week and he'll be playing games until the middle of october.  he has been waiting for this day, his first 'real' soccer game for at least a year and a half.

he got his first jersey.  for some reason, i love that its #1.

they play on two fields, 3 on 3.  he took the game pretty seriously.

it was awesome that both grandpa and grandma foreman were able to be there.

it was hot hot hot today. luckily they get breaks and a half time.  :)

charlie actually scored 3 goals.

love his crazy hair in this pic

the best part, he wants to go back next week.  :)

1st day pictures

guess what?  i survived...and reading the last post now i think to myself, 'wow..a little melodramatic there stevie'

by the time the first day rolled around it was actually more exciting than sad.  i was a little sad still am, but so exciting that we are entering this stage.  both boys in school, together, going to the same place for at least a couple years. it's nice.

i think charlie is doing well.  i think the hardest part of kindergarten is you lose that daily interaction with the teacher to get a sense of what is going on and how your kiddo is doing.  all i know at this point is that charlie has been excited to get on the bus every morning this week and has been a happy camper when he gets home.

these pictures are actually transition day.

first day of school.

mac is entering 5th grade and loves his class and likes his teacher.  he has talked non stop since wednesday about his classroom, the kids in his class and of course seeing charlie at school.  he is such a great big brother.  he's always looking out for char char.
